The major goals for the Native Peoples module will be to expand your
knowledge base about Native Peoples [past, present, future] and then
for you to modify the normal elementary education unit that we have about "the
Indians."

At the same time, doing an in depth look at Native education, we can
see how the WASP education for all peoples was patterned after what occurred
for the Native students.

When you are in the LRC [the library the next building to the east] go
back into the magazines and look for a publication called  "Native
Peoples"---- a delightful and excellent magazine that shows that the First
Americans are alive and well [some better off than others.]

Go into the books and find a book called  "Keepers of the Earth" and
"Keepers of the Animals."  These are interesting books--- several
years ago when I was teaching EED 340 I introduced the books to the class and
before we were finished 75% of the class ordered either one or both of the
books. Each part of each book starts with Native American folklore as "the
origin of death" and then the book moves into a science lesson about the
cycle of life for the land, the animals and the people.

How many of you saw the Hollywood film  "WindTalkers" several years
ago---great story but terrible film that really did not depict the Dine
people as they should have been.  Unfortunately, the film turned out to be a
blood and guts World War II movie with merely a short overview of the real Code
Talkers.
